One of the best things about living in Lanark County is the amount of trails and wilderness available at our doorstep. You can drive minutes to some of the most spectacular views! When you live locally, you don’t always play locally. We all know that we have had more time to explore what our beautiful area has to offer recently and we hope everyone will continue to safely enjoy these fantastic sources of exercise, family time, fresh air and exploring.

One of our favourite things to do with our kids is go for a walk and explore a trail. Being outside is so important to our metal health and is a great place for quiet reflection alone or great conversation with others. We have checked-out a few that I listed below and hope to explore many more in years to come.

Murphy’s Point Provincial Park

With a total of 7 trails available here, there are a lot of options for getting outdoors. We recently hiked the Silver Queen Mine Trail that was 1.6 kms and had a view in the icy cave that the kids loved! It was a pretty easy trail but it was a cool winter day so we didn’t mind. The sun was beautiful and the there is always something peaceful about walking in the woods.

Blakeney Rapids

This is a shorter trail that can be enjoyed with young ones and is approximately 6 kms long. Dogs are also welcome here but must be kept on a leash. There are lots of beautiful lookout spots to view the rapids and areas to stop along the way. The cute bridges are fun to check-out and we always really enjoy our trips here.

Foley Mountain Loop Trail

This trail is approximately 6 kms and runs in a continuous loop. It has lots of parking, is perfect for all levels and dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash. It has a stunning lookout over Westport that you will not want to miss. After your hike, you can explore the beautiful Village of Westport that offers a local winery, brewery and some great shops. This is a favourite destination for tourists in the summer by boat or car so be sure to check it out.
